Diego Cavalieri was in the Brazil squad as they defeated Spain to win the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup on home soil. Cavalieri was one of three goalkeepers in the Brazil squad to the tournament. Diego Cavalieri was on the payroll of Fluminense in the Brazilian league at the time and joined in the 23-man Brazil squad by fellow goalkeepers Julio Cesar and Jefferson.

Cavalieri and Brazil were drawn in the same group as Italy, Mexico and Japan in Group A. In their first group game, Brazil thrashed Japan 3-0 with star player Neymar getting one of the goals. He gave Brazil the lead in the third minute before midfielder Paulinho doubled the lead at the start of the second half. The second Brazil goal was also scored in the third minute of the second half.
