Diego Cavalieri

Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri was a surprise signing for Premier League club Crystal Palace when he signed for them on a short-term contract. Diego Cavalieriwas signed on a free transfer by the Eagles on March 2, 2018.

Diego Cavalieri didn’t make any appearance for Palace by the time his short-term deal ended at the club in June 2018. His last club was Brazilian Serie A outfit Fluminenseand his contract at the club ended at the end of 2017.

The 38-year-old shot stopper returned to his native Brazil to play for Botafogo almost a year after his Crystal Palace career ended and he has been at Botafogo since then. Diego Cavalieri was part of the Botafogo squad that suffered relegation at the end of last season. Botafogo were demoted from Serie A to Serie B in the Brazilian league.

Botafogo is the third Brazilian club that the aforementioned Cavalieri has played for in his career. The shot stopper came through the youth teamat Palmeiras before making his debut for the first team in 2002.

Cavalieri played for Palmeiras for a period of six years between 2002 and 2008. His first team debut for Palmeiras came against Rio Claro in June 2002. The Brazilian international featured for the senior team for the first time in the 4-0 away victory over Rio Claro.

Brazilian national team goalkeeper represented both Liverpool in the Premier League and Cesena in the Italian Serie A back then before he made the return to Brazil with Fluminense in 2010. He was an important part of the Fluminense squad that won the league title in 2012 and his form for the club led to a call up to the Brazilian national team.
